The Dingwall Combustion lets four strings speak with multiscale definition
Four strings, but a different take on how a bass should play. This Dingwall Combustion in Gloss Vintage White combines the familiar layout of a four-string electric bass guitar with a scale length that ranges from 34 to 36.25 inches. The longer low strings provide a solid foundation for clear basslines, while the shorter high strings leave room for smooth melodic playing. The swamp ash body without a separate top, the natural headstock and the matte black hardware give this version its own look: understated in color, distinctive in design.
The FD3n pickups with neodymium magnets and the EMG B30EQ preamp offer plenty of options to determine your place in the mix. With the four-way Quad-Tone pickup selector you can choose different pickup combinations; the active three-band EQ then lets you adjust the lows, mids and highs with precision. This allows you to find a full, supportive foundation for a groove, or conversely place more emphasis on the articulation of fast passages. The multiscale design is well suited to bassists who consider a clear attack and an even response important, whether playing with fingers or a pick.
The bolted neck consists of five pieces of maple and has a Medium Thin C profile. The rosewood fretboard combines a 9.45-inch radius with 20 Medium Jumbo frets and dot inlays. Hipshot tuners, a Dingwall bridge and a Graphtech Black Tusq nut complete the hardware. The controls remain clear: a master volume, the Quad-Tone selector and the active three-band EQ. For transport to the studio, rehearsal space or the stage, this Dingwall Combustion is supplied with a Dingwall Padded Gigbag.
For those who consciously stick with four strings, but seek more control over tone and playability, this Combustion is a particularly attractive introduction to Dingwall's approach. Discover how much detail is in your familiar basslines.
