The Gibson Grabber appeared in 1973 as one of the most direct and functional basses the brand ever released: a mahogany body, a bolt-on neck, and the model's most striking feature, a single pickup that slides across the body via a rail. This allowed you to mechanically determine the bass's timbre, from a deep, full neck position to a punchy, present bridge position. Epiphone brings the Grabber back as a reissue of that original, in classic Ebony.

The sliding single-coil pickup is the heart of the Grabber and the element that sets it apart from almost every other bass in the lineup. In the neck position, the bass sounds warm and full, ideal for rootsy groove playing. Towards the bridge, the tone becomes tighter, brighter, and more aggressive, making the Grabber excellently suited for funk, rock, and everything in between. This variability from a single pickup is a concept that remains logical and elegant to this day.
