The PRS Studio: An HSS Philosophy Reimagined with Narrowfields

The PRS Studio might just be the most underrated guitar from the American PRS factory. While the Custom 24 is the trusted standard and the McCarty is the purist's choice, the Studio forges its own path: a guitar that embraces the versatility of an HSS configuration, but in the characteristic PRS way. Instead of conventional single coils, PRS opts for two Narrowfield humbuckers in the neck and middle positions. Narrower coils, similar in size to a single coil, but without the hum. The result is a guitar with raw articulation and crystal-clear tone in the Narrowfield positions, and a full, warm drive as soon as the McCarty III humbucker in the bridge takes over.

The combination of Narrowfields and McCarty III is what makes the Studio so special. The 5-way blade switch provides access to all classic single-coil sounds, from sparkling clean tones to cutting mid-tones, but always with the low noise you'd expect from humbuckers. Then, when you switch to the bridge position, the guitar sounds powerful and punchy with all the warmth of a full-fledged humbucker. From Stratocaster-like cleans to heavy driving riffs: the Studio does it all without compromise.

The body is constructed from mahogany with a figured maple top in the beautiful River Blue Pearl finish, a color that comes alive in the light and shimmers differently from every angle. The mahogany neck has a Pattern Thin profile, fast and comfortable for longer playing sessions, and flows into a rosewood fretboard with the iconic PRS Bird inlays. The 25" scale length and 10" radius ensure a familiar playing experience with just enough flexibility for bends. Finished with PRS Phase III locking tuners and a PRS Patented Tremolo bridge, the Studio comes complete with a hardshell case.
