The workhorse that has survived decades of recording sessions — and still sounds like no other
The Gibson J-45 Standard is not just any acoustic guitar. 'The Workhorse' — as it has been affectionately called since 1942 — is the most recorded and best-selling acoustic model in Gibson's history. Picking up a J-45 means picking up a piece of music history. The Vintage Sunburst finish exudes the atmosphere of those golden years but performs at a contemporary level.
The sound of the J-45 Standard is recognizable from the first chord: warm, full low tones, smooth mids, and a focused, punchy bass that leaves just enough room for your voice. The dynamic response is impressive — from subtle fingerpicking to full strumming, the guitar responds honestly to every attack. And plugged in? The brand-new Gibson-exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA pickup provides an amplified sound that is true to the unamplified tone, without compromising its character.
The body is a round-shoulder dreadnought with solid mahogany back and sides and a solid Sitka spruce top — the classic combination that gives the J-45 its signature tone. The mahogany neck has a comfortable SlimTaper profile and is attached to the body with a compound dovetail joint using hot glue, which contributes to sustain and resonance. The rosewood fretboard has 20 standard frets with mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The hardware consists of Grover Rotomatic tuning machines, a rosewood Belly Up bridge with TUSQ saddle and bridge pins, and a TUSQ nut. The finish is glossy nitrocellulose lacquer — timeless and breathable. Included: a hardcase.
Whether you're heading into the studio or onto the stage, the Gibson J-45 Standard Vintage Sunburst is ready for both. This is the guitar you'll always return to.
