The Gibson Murphy Lab 1942 Banner Southern Jumbo Light Aged is a tribute to one of the most distinctive periods in Gibson's history. During World War II, Gibson produced guitars with a "Banner" on the headstock, a mark of quality that distinguishes the instruments from that era. The Southern Jumbo, with its dreadnought body and rosewood back and sides, has a full, balanced sound perfect for singer-songwriters and folk and blues musicians.

The thermally aged Sitka Spruce top is the heart of this guitar. Thermal treatment simulates the natural aging of wood over decades, resulting in a more open, responsive sound that new guitars cannot match. The Murphy Lab Light Aged nitrocellulose lacquer in Vintage Sunburst and the Mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays give the guitar an authentic vintage look. The mahogany neck with a C-profile and bone nut fits comfortably in the hand.
