Sandberg California VM4 – Timeless Lake Placid Blue in Highgloss
There are basses that catch your eye, and there are basses that stay with you. The Sandberg California VM4 Highgloss Lake Placid Blue belongs to the latter category. That deep, cool blue hue in a mirror-smooth high-gloss finish isn't just a color choice – it's a statement. It's as if Sandberg took the classic sixties aesthetic, put it through their precision workshop in Braunschweig, and crafted something timelessly beautiful.
Sonically, the VM4 is a versatile all-rounder. The split-coil pickup in the neck position delivers that full, warm P-bass body that you feel in your chest, while the single-coil at the bridge provides clarity, definition, and bite. Together, they give you a tonal palette that effortlessly switches between deep soul grooves and sharp funk lines. The active electronics with a push-pull switch for passive play also make the VM4 extremely flexible on stage.
The neck is constructed from six laminated strips of Canadian Hard Rock Maple – a construction that guarantees stability and durability, even with varying temperatures and humidity. The rosewood fretboard with dot inlays plays smoothly and comfortably, with 22 frets on a 34'' scale and a 14'' radius that makes both chord playing and soloing enjoyable. The Sandberg 2-point bridge and chrome tuners complete an instrument that is thoughtfully designed from head to tail.
